Our History

Where we started

The foundation was established March 1, 2004. The first donation went to Bluewater Health, the local hospital from Mike Weir’s home town. Upon acceptance, the location where the donation was made was aptly named Mike Weir Park.

Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive For Kids

In 2007, the Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive For Kids raised $6.7 million that benefitted the Children’s Miracle Network hospitals across Canada. The initiative brought together individuals, sponsors and golf courses in united nationwide fundraising events to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network member hospitals.

At that time, the Children’s Miracle Network member hospitals were regarded as some of the finest hospitals in the world, providing 24-hour, state of the art care for 2.6 million children each year, as well as leading research and community outreach programs that benefit both children and their families.

Youth Wellness Hubs of Ontario (YWHO)

In 2018, the Mike Weir Foundation shifted its focus onto supporting youth mental health.

Across Ontario, there are 22 Youth Wellness Hubs (YWHO) that provide high-quality integrated youth services to support the well-being of young people aged 12 to 25.

The Mike Weir Foundation donated 1.5 million to help bring a much needed Hub to Mike’s hometown.

YWHO Sarnia-Lambton serves as a one stop destination where young individuals can find comprehensive mental health and addictions services, including, counselling, peer support, crisis intervention, and access to specialized care when needed. By centralizing these services, YWHO aims to enhance coordination, collaboration and continuity of care for youth ensuring they receive the support they need at the right time and in the right place.

Weir Active

In 2023, Mike partnered up with another local professional athlete to build out the Sarnia-Lambton YWHO model to include a physical activity component.

It is well researched that physical activity has a positive effect on mental health and by taking a proactive approach by providing youth with free access to movement opportunities their is a possibility of curving the need from crises care.

Currently, a pilot Weir Active program is being run in conjunction with the services Sarnia-Lambton YWHO site with an aim to build out the model across the province.
