Wed, 05 Jul 2006 11:25:00
The Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive For Kids, a national fundraising initiative in support of Children's Miracle Network hospitals across Canada, officially kicks off on June 25 at London, Ontario's Sunningdale Golf and Country Club, but thanks to the launch of the initiative's official website, anyone interested in lending their support can get involved today The program's official website, www.mikeweirmiraclegolfdrive.ca, has launched to assist in encouraging all Canadians, including golfers and non-golfers alike, to participate in a variety of year-round activities, including on-line donations and pledge-based fundraising, to raise funds and awareness for Children's Miracle Network hospitals.

“While the Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive For Kids involves many people across the country, the program has a single aim – to support children's health through the work of Children's Miracle Network hospitals in communities across Canada,” said Mike Weir.  “It's exciting to think that we're so close to the launch of this fundraising initiative in London next month.  I'm looking forward to being there, and I encourage all Canadians to join us, in whatever way they choose, to help build this into an important annual fundraiser from coast to coast.”

The Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive For Kids will bring together individuals, sponsors and golf courses in united nationwide fundraising events to benefit the 14 hospitals that make up the Children's Miracle Network in Canada.  Supported by the National Golf Course Owners Association Canada (NGCOA Canada), the Mike Weir Miracle Golf Drive For Kids will team up with the NGCOA Canada and their ‘Take a Kid to the Course Week', which takes place July 2-8, 2007, as both initiatives are child focused and community based.  This new relationship provides a unique vehicle through which participating golf courses and individuals wishing to support the cause can now raise funds for kids and the Children's Miracle Network hospital in their community.

“We were delighted that Mike and Bricia immediately saw the scope and vision of a national fundraising platform that reached out to the golfing community.  They had been looking for a means through which they could make a significant impact on Canadian kids each year and Children's Miracle Network was the perfect fit” said John Hartman, Chief Operating Officer, Children's Miracle Network, Canada. “Mike's reputation in the golfing community and across Canada will provide tremendous profile to this effort, and Mike and Bricia's joy in being parents underscores their conviction that children's hospitals truly matter”

Regarded as some of the finest hospitals in the world, the 14 Canadian Children's Miracle Network member hospitals provide 24-hour, state-of-the-art care for 2.6 million children each year, as well as leading research and community outreach programs that benefit both the children and their families.
